August 2011 - 30th Anniversary Tea Celebration.
To celebrate 30 years, we decided to hold a "High Tea" complete with all the trimmings.
Life Memberships were awarded to four members. President Kim presents the first to Edna.
Kim was a little unsure of where to pin the award.
But finally decided on an appropriate place.
Kim then called Coral to receive her life membership.
And had the same problem.
So he deferred to Jo to perform the task.
Then it was time for Shirley, who was determined not to be photographed.
Congratulations from Kim, but Shirley still won't turn to face the camera.
Finally recorded for posterity.
Kim then announced the creation of a new award for "Novice Championship" for the Donnybrook Branch of the Society.
Founding Member Lyla was obviously surprised and delighted and accepted the shield on behalf of the Donnybrook Branch.
Kim then announced the creation of a second award to be known as the "Lyla Kilpatrick Perpetual Trophy" which is awarded to the best WA Hybrid in the Autumn Exhibition.
Lyla then cut the cake to mark the occasion of our 30th anniversary.
And then the food started. Jill was bringing it to the High Table while Kim demonstrated the "correct" way to stir one's tea - being careful not to "clink the spoon" on the cup.
Meanwhile Jill is still bringing food to the table.
Finally it is all delivered and Jill is run off her feet in the background. Our members put on a splendid tea and Jenny and Anne in the kitchen did a great job of setting it all up. Many helpers were on hand at all times!
The WA Begonia Society - celebrating thirty years - and many more to come.
